Some of the Ways Your Pet Can Take Pills
Letting your dog take his or her pill is not going to be an easy or pleasant task, and this we for a fact and experience. Somehow our dogs would have the inkling that we are trying to trick them, and thankfully, we as the more intelligent creature, have some solutions that are helpful to make us accomplish the task.
All dog owners would come across to situations when they have to give medications like dog pills to their pets for treating them in some conditions. Even us humans are finding it difficult to sometimes swallow some medications, and the same is true with our pet dogs, and luckily, we have some ways of giving our pets an oral treatment.
Our first way to get our pet dogs take the pill is to insert it into the mouth by hand, and this is considered as the quickest way to perform oral pills to dogs. To make your dog open his or her mouth, tilt his or her head upwards, insert your thumb and index fingers at the back of the upper jaw, then insert the tablet as far as the back of the dog’s mouth. Remove your fingers and keep the dog’s mouth open for a few seconds and blow on its nose which will make the dog swallow.
The next tip, which is actually a disguise and the easiest manner of giving tablets to your pet, is to hide in the dog’s food or treat the tablets.
Our next suggestion is to use a device called a dog piller, of which your pet can swallow the tablets without the chances of your fingers being bitten in the process especially if your dog becomes aggressive. Pet piller or pill popper as called, are easily available in most pet stores, and it is compose of a plastic plunger with a rubber tip that is soft that would allow an easy application of oral medication.
There is a tasty treat that has a built in pouch where you can insert the pills, and this is called pill pockets, and it will serve an easy and troublesome free manner of making your pet dog eat the treat with the medication in it. This treat comes in various flavors and is a great source of vitamins for the immune system of our pet dogs.
A liquid medication is another way to administer the medication, and this is a little easier than giving tablets since you can just squirt the liquid into the dog’s mouth.
